Today's F1 GP was the first race I'm watching completely this season. I'm glad too. Chechi observed that the last seven races here have featured seven different champions. If I'd put my money on a race ticket, I'd buy it for Hungaroring to be guaranteed its worth. It was a very interesting race indeed.
Massa raced into the lead at the first corner, overtaking both the McLarens. Even with a light fuel load, it did seem like a feat, considering that the silver arrows are the class of the field today. Kimi seemed to be putting in a dismal performance, having sunk from P6 on the grid. In the closing stages of the race, he clocked fastest laps (!!) to close in on Alonso and put on a good show of speed.
He ran wide at a corner just before the pits though, and I cursed, but the pit crew did a good job of turning it around and getting him out in front of Fernando nevertheless. Hamilton screwed his tire and fell to 9th, promoting his teammate to 2nd place. Things were getting exciting when Massa blew his engine.
Kimi had closed in on Timo Glock currently placed 2nd, at about a second a lap, from 6 seconds behind to a mere 0.8, when Ferrari asked him to back off, expressing concerns of his engine following suit. So we had two new unfamiliar faces on the podium, with my brand new Finn boy winning his first race.
Kimi and he poured champagne on each other, reminiscent of the old Finn camaraderie when I used to back Kimi, in the dusk of Mika's F1 career, although Kimi's is far from over. Go Finn! Like I've already exclaimed on multiple occasions, "What a country!". Half a dozen lucky buggers are going there on student exchange the next term, to Turku, to be precise. How I envy them. Souvenirs, Ilango!
In other news, my new Dell Vostro 1310 arrived today. Got it with the bulk deal. 3GB of RAM and 160GB of HDD, running Windows XP Pro, NOT Vista! Glory be. A hardy heron will soon run at breakneck speed, I say. Bruce, meanwhile, has blown a few ICs, so Achan has turned him in for repair at Toshiba Care in Cochin. Get well soon!
