Birthday

Celebrated a nice birthday, begun and ended with wishes from the wife. Got my gluteal region attacked by scores of feet (some in football boots fresh from the inter-hostel tournament in progress) and a certain cricket bat wielded in turn by Sravan and Laxman (who will rue the night when they are assaulted with a vengeance, the next opportunity I get to kick their asses). The effect was somewhat muted thanks to prior 'medicine'.

Ate lovely chocolate cake (one slice of which adorned my face and head) and slept. I lunched at Dasaprakash (Sagar Hotel) near Hazratganj, with the Tams and the Mals. The Rs.165/- special thali never fails to satisfy hunger of breakfast, lunch and dinner! I wonder whether I will be in shape to attend tomorrow's 6.30 a.m. Yoga session.

MBA Year 2

Communication objective: Sometimes, this boils down to merely keeping the audience awake, as Prof. Neelam Kinra often finds out. If the prospect of watching ads sounds interesting, come count the lolling heads in the Promotional Strategy class at IIML.

A friend's ad project talks of twins separated after birth, finding each other after decades. A minor glitch: one is twice the size of the other. Why? 'cause he's been gorging on 'Organo' food. That's how one makes an inane "Green" topic interesting.

What did we do? We spliced MJ's "Earth Song" into a couple of clips from 'The day after tomorrow', ending with a sentimental "There is hope". Gripping. :-| That'd bring tears to the eyes of any Global Warming lobbyist worth his uniodized salt.

Creativity is a word thrown about with almost as much gay abandon as Strategy. "What's for lunch?" "Sarson ka saag and chapati." "What's your strategy for ingestion?" Pooh! Die! Die! They say Atlas Shrugged. How about Sisyphus tripping?? Ha, that'd let the rock roll down alright. No moss gathered, though. Or else we'd have a strategy case study on how Sisyphus should rethink the path taken up the hill, to minimise foliage encountered, increase meandering factor, etc.

That would be Sahay's contribution courtesy System Dynamics. Apply causal loops to such insular topics such as the 'Growth of Rat Population' in an area. Radically change the problem around for the exam to 'Bird Population' so students spend time contemplating how birds fuck. A certain moron suggested that the winged ones were hermaphrodites and didn't require to copulate. I'd suggest a swift kick in the nuts to cure that particular misconception. I digress.. But isn't digression the main goal of a true blue MBA student? Maybe I'm just cynical.

Finnish finish finally

Today's F1 GP was the first race I'm watching completely this season. I'm glad too. Chechi observed that the last seven races here have featured seven different champions. If I'd put my money on a race ticket, I'd buy it for Hungaroring to be guaranteed its worth. It was a very interesting race indeed.

Massa raced into the lead at the first corner, overtaking both the McLarens. Even with a light fuel load, it did seem like a feat, considering that the silver arrows are the class of the field today. Kimi seemed to be putting in a dismal performance, having sunk from P6 on the grid. In the closing stages of the race, he clocked fastest laps (!!) to close in on Alonso and put on a good show of speed.

He ran wide at a corner just before the pits though, and I cursed, but the pit crew did a good job of turning it around and getting him out in front of Fernando nevertheless. Hamilton screwed his tire and fell to 9th, promoting his teammate to 2nd place. Things were getting exciting when Massa blew his engine.

Kimi had closed in on Timo Glock currently placed 2nd, at about a second a lap, from 6 seconds behind to a mere 0.8, when Ferrari asked him to back off, expressing concerns of his engine following suit. So we had two new unfamiliar faces on the podium, with my brand new Finn boy winning his first race.

Kimi and he poured champagne on each other, reminiscent of the old Finn camaraderie when I used to back Kimi, in the dusk of Mika's F1 career, although Kimi's is far from over. Go Finn! Like I've already exclaimed on multiple occasions, "What a country!". Half a dozen lucky buggers are going there on student exchange the next term, to Turku, to be precise. How I envy them. Souvenirs, Ilango!

In other news, my new Dell Vostro 1310 arrived today. Got it with the bulk deal. 3GB of RAM and 160GB of HDD, running Windows XP Pro, NOT Vista! Glory be. A hardy heron will soon run at breakneck speed, I say. Bruce, meanwhile, has blown a few ICs, so Achan has turned him in for repair at Toshiba Care in Cochin. Get well soon!

Engaged

Was in Cochin for a week, to attend my engagement, Sami's wedding and his reception. I had a great time. Even Federer's loss at Wimbledon did nothing to dampen my spirits. I missed the F1 race completely. Priorities change.. and this blog will not survive either.

Headlines to laugh at

My warped sense of humor kicked in bigtime today, when I thought of how these punny headlines are better. F1 needs to hit F1, I say!

1. Kovalainen cleared to race in Turkey : Heikki to turn key at Turkey

2. Massa chasing Turkish hat-trick : Felipe wants a fillip

3. Smaller teams used like servants : Aguri augurs bad

4. Incorrect paint job to blame for Heikki's crash : Matte finish next time for Finnish Finish

5. No new nose for Ferrari in Turkey : Ferrari won't smell victory
